Mentorship at Temple HCI Lab

Since joining Temple University, Stephen MacNeil has worked with more than 135 undergraduate students through the Temple HCI Lab and has co-authored publications with more than 80 student collaborators. Students in the lab regularly contribute to research design, fieldwork, prototyping, analysis, writing, and peer-reviewed publication.

Student Outcomes

Temple HCI Lab students and alumni regularly publish papers, earn nationally competitive recognition, and go on to PhD programs. Recent outcomes include student-authored publications, major fellowships, national scholarships, undergraduate research honors, and doctoral placements.

How Students Contribute

We do not treat students as assistants carrying out a fixed set of pre-defined tasks. Depending on the project and their experience level, they help shape research questions, design studies, build prototypes, analyze qualitative and quantitative data, write papers, present posters, and mentor newer lab members.

The goal is not only to produce strong research, but also to help students become thoughtful, independent researchers who know how to collaborate, communicate, and grow over time.
